Task 1:

Carol Bell
Hanfland 45
6752 Altach
24th November

Dear Carol,

how are you? We haven’t seen each other for a long time, but it’s not easy for me at the moment, actually for the whole family. We all have many problems, although the main conflict is between Nick and Jack. There’s no lunch or breakfast without quarrel. Nick always finds a reason to criticise Jack. I’m also not proud about Jack’s behaviour that night, but I think Nick is rather unfair. Suzy, my mother, has a better relationship to Jack. She tries to protect him all the time. I can also talk to her well. She’s confident, tries to help and find solutions for our problems. If Jack and Nick are fighting, she wants to calm them down. I think she has never had any success with that. Jack is just in a tough time and maybe he needs someone to talk to. I often want to talk but he always retreats. So I don’t know, whether I should leave him alone. Can you give me some advices, but only if you want to?
Hopefully I will see you soon.

Yours, Zoe

Hans Peter

Dear Mr. Peter,

I want to apply fort he vacancy, which was advertised in the “VN“ two days ago. Working with kids attracts me to do this job. I love young people and like to play with them. Due to my younger brother, who is in the same age, I have got much experience. I often had to supervise him. Some of my talents are organising and making timetables, but I am also good at leading groups. In 2006 I finished the BORG” in Goetzis with Matura and did the “Zivildienst” at Caritas.
I would really like to get this summer job, to have fun with the children and get some more experience. Please give me reponse as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully, Luzian Burgstaller

Jack

Character:

Because the look of Jack is not mentioned, our group had to think about he looks in our opinion. We came to the conclusion that he is a very athletics boy and rather tall and slim. In our imagination he is a well dressed guy because we think that his clothes and his look is pretty important to him. He wears old, blue jeans combined with a T-shirt that has a motive on the breast which matches perfectly with Jack’s brown hair. His hair is middle-long and scruffy most of the time. But anyway he mostly wears his baseball cap, which he has since he was five years old.

How does he act? :

Jack is the best example for a pubescent teenager. He is a rude boy, how does everything he wants to. For example he goes to every party. When he talks with his parents about the events of the last night he gets upset really fast, even that he leaves the house. Jack doesn’t want to listen to his father and also doesn’t except Nick’s rules. When he finds out that Ben lied when he told that Jack had two girls at the party, he explodes in rage. Jack is a really wild boy, how loves the nature and the forest. He could survive alone in the wilderness if it’s necessary.

Relationship:

The relationship to his father Nick is not so good. They both do not like each other very much. So Jack does not listen to Nick and also does not abide by Nick’s rules. They never have a calm and good talk because Nick always starts to shout at Jack. It goes as far that Nick drives his son out of the house.
Jack gets on better with his mother Suzy. He can talk to her without any problems and stress. Suzy always protects him from Nick and his accusations.
Zoe, his sister, thinks that she knows everything better and has the solutions for all of Jack’s problems. But Jack does not want to hear them and withdraws from her because he does want to talk to her.

Speak: Task 2

The Main Character (Melinda)

After Melinda gets raped she withdraws from her family and her only two friends she has. She wants to speak about that what depresses her but she can’t negotiate to do. So the only place for her to be alone is in her head. In School Melinda tries to make friends although she knows that everybody hates her for that what she has done.

Also Rachel, her ex-best-friend which has done everything together with Melinda does not want to have something to do with her. She is the only person Melinda can speak to. Rachel is not the only person which turns away from her. All Melinda’s friends from elementary school are in their own clan. Only David Petrakis supports her all the time. In contrast to Heather, who breaks off the friendship because Melinda is depressed and not speaking David wants to help her. He says she should not be afraid to speak but he does not get any success.

At home Melinda is alone the most time ‘cause her parents are working very much. So they do not speak much together. The main way of communication is writing a letter and pinning it at the fridge. If her parents are at home she is mostly in her room or watching TV. Though they know that something is wrong with Melinda they do not really do something against or try to talk to her to solve the problem.

Also the teachers do not notice Melinda. They are not friendly especially Mr. Neck is very hostile to her. Except Mr. Freeman likes and speaks with her because he notices very soon what is up with her. That is reason why Melinda’s best mark is in art and in all other subjects she gets very bad marks.

Speak: Task 1

Speak

Laurie Halse Anderson was born on October 23, 1961 in Potsdam, New York. She has four children and lives with her family in New York City. Speak is one of her most successful novels she writes and leverages to her break through.

It is summer-vacation. Melinda Sordino, a 13 years old girl, is at a party of a friend of Andy Evans. After half time something happened to her and she calls the police so that they all get busted, but she can’t tell them why she called the cops. Since this party Melinda speaks hardly anything and backs out. Then school starts again for her in high school. There she has no friends because everybody hates her for what she has done. Only the two schoolmates Heather and David Petrakis become friends of her. Also in school Melinda can’t speak up what she wants to except in art and all her marks are getting worse. Some time later Heather breaks off the friendship to her as Melinda would be depressive. Only David is supporting her but also say that she should come out of her by speaking. In the meantime she isn’t able to keep her thoughts for her. She wants t speak but she can’t. Only as Heather comes back to her looking for help she breaks the blockade. So she communicates by writing at a notebook with her ex-best-friend Rachel about the happenings at the party. Rachel feels very sad for her until Melinda says that Rachel’s boyfriend Andy raped her. Rachel doesn’t believe her and gets angry though she’s afraid that Melinda could be right. Soon the rumour spreads in the whole school. Consequently also Andy hears of that. The result is that he attacks Melinda and wants her to acknowledge that she has lied. Not like at the party Melinda can resist and threats him with a sharp glass “I said NO!”

My opinion about this book is that it is written a little bit too boring. It is very interesting but thrilling parts should be more detailed. Except for this it is a really good book.

Globalization

  1. Globalization affects employment of Austria:

At the one hand the market in Austria became better because of the enlargement to Eastern Europe, where the economy booms and Austria is directly situated at the border to this region. On the other hand many Austrian companies displace their places of production to other countries for saving money.

  1. Austrian multinationales

· Liebherr:

… is one of the leading concerns for cranes worldwide and employs 26.337 people around the world. In 2006 they obtain 6.473 Mio. €.

· Rauch:

…and Fohrenburger have more than 1000 staff members and export into more than 50 counties. In 2003 Rauch made more than 483 million € earning.

· Doppelmayr:

…has built more than 13.700 installations in over 78 countries. So it is the world’s leader in ropeway engineering.

  1. Groups against globalization

Anti-Globalization: That is a social movement which is strictly against globalization and tries to reduce the global complexity.

  1. How can we support Fair Trade?

If you buy products marked whit the Fair Trade logo you support this organisation. These products, which are exports from Developing Countries and Third World Countries are a bit more expensive than local product but so more than 1,4 million farmers profit.

  1. Opinion about globalization

In my opinion globalization has good and bad sites. It’s good that the world grows together and we can communicate with all people of the world because of the internet but it’s bad that everything is produced somewhere and is transported through the whole world. We should produce the things we need in our own country though it is cheaper in China or India.

2nd SA correction

Our tour starts at Drummer Street Bus station, which is situated in the centre of Cambridge. At first we head off to Whipple Museum, a history of science museum. It is open from 12:30 to 4:30 on workdays and the admission is free. If you are interested in science, the Whipple Museum is a must-go for you. Now, we are going to visit Corpus Christi College. This very famous college was founded in 1352. It’s a very beautiful building, which has a nice court in the middle. After this visit let’s go shopping at the market. It’s situated in St. Mary’s Market Street and contains lots of art and craft shops, but also normal shops and stalls. Our next stop is another famous college. In contrast to Corpus College Trinity College has more than four thousand students. That’s the reason why it’s so big. It was founded in1546. Let’s continue our tour at Wesley House, which is a Methodist university of theology. It’s situated in Jesus Lane in a huge and wonderful park. The destination before going back to Drummer Street is Grafton Shopping Centre in the further surrounding of Cambridge. It’s counted among biggest shopping centres in UK. No matter what you need, in this centre you can get everything. It even houses a cinema and a car shop.

So, that was the tour. I hope you have enjoyed it, but now let’s walk back to the bus station.

RANKWEIL, the best village you can imagine

Dear Rüdiger,

Let me take you on a visual tour through Rankweil.

I want to conduct you trough my village. Rankweil is in Vorarlberg, Austria and has more than 12,000 habitants. We start our tour at the “Liebfrauenberg”, which is in the middle of Rankweil. At the top of this hill there is a big church, the Basilika. It was built around 840 in purpose to protect the population of the farther area of Rankweil. Around the church there is a battlement. From there we have a great view over the whole Rheintal. Direct submontane the hill we are arranged at the market place. From here we walk along the Ringstraße. This is the shopping street in Rankweil. Then we walk towards west till we reach the Frutz, a stream which flow into the Rhein. There we make a walk through the forest. After this effort we take the bus to the shopping area in the south of Rankweil. In the McDonalds we have a rest. Later after doing some shopping we want to play golf at the golf course in the reed. This course is very new. It was built one year ago and has eighteen holes. At the end of the day we walk back to the centre. Our tour ends at the railway station where you can take trains towards Vienna and Bregenz. I hope that you can imagine the place where I live now.

Yours Luzian
