1st SA-correction

Dear Alice,

nice to hear of you. I can give you only one piece of advice. Don’t start taking drugs! If he wants you to try it, then say no. The “in the-crowd” theory says that you probably start taking drugs because everybody around you does so.

Drugs are not as harmless as you think. There is a big variety of dangers. After a long time of taking drugs your brain can get damaged. In addition you may get diseases like blood poisoning, abscesses or sores. By injecting heroin, the risk of contracting the aids virus is very high. All these things are causes for not taking drugs.

I know it is hard to leave friends but in my opinion it would be better to stop the friendship with Jason. If he really also injects heroin, he will change into an other person. He might leave school and get depressive.

After telling you reasons I hope you will not start to take drugs. Initially it probably is funny and “cool”, but in the end you are addicted, not able to stop and your life is ruined.

So, please mind my advice!

Yours …

Homework Mosquito Coast

Task 2:

Policeman: Please tell me where you are from.

Me: My family and I are from Hatfield in America.

Policeman: And why are you here?

Me: We came here because my father wanted to escape the modern world and live a “normal” life without any modern machines.

Policeman: What happened before your dad was shot to death?

Me: We were driving towards the jungle on the river, when we saw this modern village. We stopped at the other bank. Then my father went to the opposite bank in a pipanto. Suddenly there was an explosion in the village.

Policeman: Why was there an explosion?

Me: I don't know. But I think that father had his finger in the pie.

Policeman: What happened after the explosion?

Me: Dad came back to our boat and just wanted to climb up into the boat, when somebody from the other bank shots him down.

Policeman: Have you seen the shooter?

Me: No.

Policeman: OK, I thank you very much for your help. What are you going to do now?

Me: Our family is going to return to the United States.

Policeman: I wish you good luck. Have a nice journey.

Me: Thank you.

Homework Mosquito Coast

Task 1:

Dear John,

I send this letter to you from Honduras. Our family came here into the jungle because my father wanted to leave America and the modern world. But things didn’t work out as he had expected and the whole venture turned into a catastrophe. When we arrived here, we got to know Mr. Haddy. He helped us to build our village. My father was working the whole time and we were supposed to help him. Then he finished “Fat Boy”, so we were able to make ice with fire. My dad wanted to show the ice to some Indians. We walked to their village with an enormous block of ice. It was a very exhausting trip, because we had to walk through thick jungle. But when we reached the village, the ice had smelt. In this village were some white men. We thought that they were prisoners. Dad told them that they should come to us, because there they would be saved. Some days later they came with guns. So father lured them into “Fat Boy”, where they froze to death after father switched it on. Then we escaped from our home. We were driving into the jungle with a boat, when we saw a village on the bank. We stopped at the other side. In the evening there was suddenly an explosion. My father came back to us by boat and was just climbing up the boat when he got shot down by a man from the other side of the river. We pulled him into the boat and floated downriver in the current. When we reached the ocean, dad was dead. I'm so sad about everything that happened. It was dad's dream to come here and start a new life but that was his doom. I'm looking forward to going home to America.

Yours, Charlie

Pursuit of happiness

What makes me happy?

I think the thing that makes me the most happy is snowboarding with my friends.

Early in the morning I wake up and look out of the window. Over night it has been snowing so much and now the sky is clearing up. The trees are full of snow. I am so excited and cannot eagerly wait for the moment when I can go up the mountain to have a great day with my friends.

It is just fun jibbing with my friends, riding through the fresh powder and jumping down some cliffs. When I am riding I forget all my problems and have no stress.

And when we are tired we look for a nice place. Then we sit down and relax in the warm sun. We tell each other jokes, laugh and enjoy the beautiful winter panorama. That is like a perfect day for me and that makes me happy. I hope there will be much snow in the next winter. So do not waste energy and help to stop global warming. Otherwise there is no winter anymore.
